Kicks for Kids, Wine Tastings and More!

Posted on Sep 29, 2011

Many of you have asked about Kicks for Kids, which usually takes place this weekend. We have decided to move the event to the Spring, in order to boost our participation, both in the run/walk and soccer event. In fact, we will be sponsoring a soccer tournament in the Spring, along with a newly organized run/walk, so more people can participate throughout the weekend. That's right, it's going to be a weekend event with soccer and run/walk events. So, keep those soccer cleats and running shoes handy. The Kick will be back!

Get Ready for our November Wine Tasting

We are planning a holiday wine tasting for November. You will be able to come in and taste some great wines, provided by the Wine Chateau, in their new facility in Metuchen, New Jersey. We are working now to finalize a date. More details to come.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and in spite of all the good news coming out of medical research, we are still losing the battle to this dreaded disease. Although children are surviving in greater numbers, more kids are being diagnosed with cancer, and short-term care and long term survival continue to be important issues in need of funding and development. Did you know that in the last twenty years, only one new drug has come to market specifically designed for pediatric cancer? Our government and representatives are being forced to create legislation offering incentives to the drug companies to create drugs just for kids. Today, children are treated with drugs designed for adult cancers, and all you have to do is look at the statistics to know that's not working.

Kids need drugs specifically designed for them, and CureSearch for Children's Cancer is leading the way, with the help of many congressional representatives who are launching legislation that will provide support for research and education on pediatric cancer. It's a complex issue, and cancer continues to be the most challenging disease we face in terms of finding a cure. That's why your support of our mission, which provides compassionate care and support to the families of children with cancer and blood disorders, is so important. As we approach the end of the year, I hope you will be as generous as possible in your giving. I thank you in advance for your support of all our families and of the programs we have established that support them.
