The Grieving Garden: A Book By And For Bereaved Parents

Posted on Apr 11, 2013

For grieving parents, life can feel empty and hopeless. The Grieving Garden is a book written by 22 parents who are all dealing with the loss of a child.

In 2008, Lainie’s Angels founder and my father Stathi Afendoulis shared his experiences as a bereaved parent in the co-written book, The Grieving Garden. In a series of essays and anecdotes, Stathi and 21 other parents talk about the tragedy that is losing a child, and how to deal with it.

The Grieving Garden not only notes the experiences of parents who’ve lost their children to cancer, but to other illnesses, accidents, suicide, and even acts of terrorism. The book is divided into sections, each one devoted to a different set of struggles a grieving parent goes through after losing a child. It covers the process of bereavement from the first few days following the loss, to years down the road.

The Grieving Garden is a compassionate, reliable resource for bereaved parents, and can be purchased here in our store. If you or someone you know is dealing with the loss of a child, consider using this book as a resource for comfort and advice. Part of your purchase will be donated to Lainie’s Angels, allowing our Parent Advocacy Programs to exist as a resource for the families of children with cancer and blood disorders.
